  Food: I ordered the seafood chowder as a starter with no bacon and it was pretty average. The sauce had a skin on top and the fish was tough and chewy, implying it was frozen or cooked a while ago and reheated. Someone at my table ordered it as a main but without the aforementioned dietary restriction and said it was decent. For mains I ordered the lamb tagine with couscous. This was not great. The lamb was tough and in chunks whilst the sauce was thin and very minty. Lamb tagines should really be off the bone so the meat is tender and succulent. The meaty taste should infuse in the sauce and lemons are often added to balance the sweetness of the tagine. The couscous was pretty plain. My friend ordered the mussels and they were pretty nice.
  
  Service: The waitresses were pleasant and attentive.
  
  Ambience: Very nice. Dimly lit and warm decor.
  
  Price: Expensive. A main dish was about 15 pounds.
  
  Recommendation: If you are staying in Croyde you may not have too much choice.

  Nice atmosphere. Very expensive, and quality didn't quite match. £21.45 for beef wellington, requested medium/rare and it was well done. Lovely veggie nut patties (£12.95) but only came with a simple salad and some plain bread. Around £50 for two courses, dessert to share and one glass of wine. Very friendly staff. Enjoyed it but probably wouldn't go again.
